This section will be devoted to anything ’72! I was born on June 9, 1972 and of course being a newborn I didn’t know what music was playing around me. I’m not aware of what music my mom played specifically for me or if she sang to me to be honest. But I have a good guess at what was playing since my mother’s taste was pretty country growing up. She also liked Elvis a lot. Somewhere between Patsy Cline and Elvis is where my mom’s tastes developed. She was born in 1938 so by the time she was twenty she would have been exposed to the birth of rock n’ roll and being a mid western girl, loving the country music of the fifties, sixties and seventies. I joke and say I didn’t really know any other type of music existed except country from birth the fourth grade. But I was exposed to rock and disco via my older cousins. One of my cousins, Doreen, loved Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond. One of the sons of a babysitter I had loved KISS (that album with Gene Simmons on it scared the crap out of me when I was eight or nine years old lol!) So little by little, all these musical introductions were shaping my taste.

Now let’s get to the subject of 1972 specifically. Let’s get a snapshot of what was popular in 1972:

1972 in Music: This is a list of notable events in music that took place in the year 1972.

I am pretty good with “Candy Man” being number one on my birthday. Especially since I love sweets and desserts! I’m not much of a Jethro Tull fan but I’m opening to listening to that album and see how it sounds. As for “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” and Roberta Flack that of course is a truly classic song. So tender and beautiful. I have to share a cover of that song with all of you from Leona Lewis. It is one of my all time favorite covers and Leona takes it to another level!
