From about 2010 to 2014, I worked at a bar called Trax on Haight Street in San Francisco and it was one of the best jobs of my life. I learned a lot about the history of the street from the regulars who lived it, saw it, smoked it and told me tales of all kinds. I always loved sixties music but when you work on Haight Street, you take on a whole new appreciation of the history and music from that decade. I was also exposed to sixties music during high school and college. The sixties were making a comeback in the eighties via radio, movies and singers having “comebacks” during that time. In the nineties, my roommate was a senior and was basically a hippie at heart. Through him I was introduced to Janis Joplin whom I adored upon hearing her greatest hits. So much so I began drinking Southern Comfort as my drink of choice! Let’s get started on my favorites from that decade! (This will be an ongoing page that will be added to over time!)

The Kinks – “Sunny Afternoon

The Kinks are a one of a kind band with a unique sound and the gifted songwriting ability of their lead singer, Ray Davies. In my time, the eighties, they made a comeback with a great song called “Come Dancing” which was wonderfully catchy and a great storyline. There was also a regular at Trax, Hippie Steve, who said that he wished he could write songs like Ray Davies and I agree we all wish we could write great tunes like Mr. Davies.
